Here's what you need to know: hearing protection doesn't stop failing when it still looks fine. A cushion can lose compression slowly enough that you won't notice. Step 1: Squeeze the Ear Cushions

  • No visible cracking, especially along the seams.
  • No permanent dents—if it stays compressed, it's done.

Step 7: While You're At It—Check the Fire Extinguisher

  • Gauge: The needle should be in the green zone.
